Hi…

  • Yikes! It’s been way too long since I updated my blog. I didn’t mean to let time get away from me, but somehow it did. I did so well updating daily over Lent, but since Easter has passed I have missed several days. I need to get back into the good swing of posting more regularly. I’ll do my best. :)
  • I’m still floating on a cloud from our trip to Nashville last week. I just can’t say how much it meant to me that Mickey planned that all as a huge surprise for me.  He worked it all out just perfectly and we had a wonderful WONDERFUL time!! On Saturday we got up and went over to meet up with my mom and the girls and that was fun too. The girls had a blast with Nana, of course. We spent all of Saturday in TN and then came home on Sunday. It was a beautiful weekend all around.
  • This week we’ve been reconnecting to the “real” world. It was hard to come back to reality after such a great travel weekend, but at least reality is a nice place to be too. (wink)
  • The girls are both in their last weeks of school which is REALLY hard to believe. Macey has 17 more school days left in her Kindergarten year. How crazy is that?! Mariana has 8 school days of preschool left counting today. That just boggles the mind too. I have heard it said that when kids are growing up the days can be long, but the years are short. I wholeheartedly agree!! I can’t believe how quickly it all goes and I just want to savor every moment that we possibly can in these amazing years.
  • I have a couple of book reviews that I need to post, so hopefully I can get to those later today. I ordered several books lately, so it’s nice to have a stack of them to work through when I have chances.
  • The weather has been just SOOO gorgeous here lately. Finally we are having  nice warm spring days. Love temps in the 80s, they are my favorite kind of days.
  • Guess I should go so that I can get Mickey, Mariana and me ready for today. (Macey’s already at school)

Have a beautiful day,
Kelly

An Amazing Evening…

Mickey and I attended the 2009 Dove Awards last evening. Let me just say – it was amazing!! We had an incredible time!!

Our tickets listed the event as “black tie optional” and since we have very few opportunities to really dress to the nines, we went all out and dressed pretty formal. I had actually borrowed a few dresses from a friend, but wound up wearing one of my own. It was my bridesmaid dress from my brother Charlie and sister-in-law Liz’s wedding. As a sidenote: Macey had to be hospitalized on the day of Charlie  & L iz’s wedding, so I only wore the dress a short time then. I got to the church in time to take a few pictures and be in the ceremony, then I returned to the hospital where Mickey was with Macey. So, this was a chance to wear the dress again and it was perfect! Let me just say, I haven’t felt this much like a princess since our wedding day. From the planning of this surprise by Mickey to everything coming together, I absolutely felt like a princess and I am so grateful that my incredible husband put this all together. Anyway, we got all spiffed up at the hotel and headed out to the Doves.

Here I am in the hotel lobby prior to leaving:

We took a cab and went out to the Grand Ole Opry House where the Awards were taking place. We got there with some time to take photos before the ceremony started.  Here we are before going into the Awards:

After snapping some photos, we checked in and got our programs before going to find our seats. We were seated in the first balcony and were “stage right” which gave us a great vantage point for the events. There was also a HUGE screen to our left that gave us even more visibility. We had some great people sitting around us too – very nice and friendly. Just a fun set up for the whole evening, really.

With about two minutes to go until show time, the producer came over the loud speaker and told us that he’d be letting us know when we were coming back from commercial, etc. I can’t remember which person said this, actually, but one of the pre-service speakers said that if we were on Facebook, Twitter, etc. to update our statuses about the Doves, etc. So, I did…throughout the show. That was fun!!

The whole show was just incredible. Truly INCREDIBLE! To be in that place, seeing so many of our favorite artists and all being there in celebration of faith was just awesome. There were so many great performances, of course. There were also moments of comedy, nostalgia, prayer and even emotion. The most emotional moments of the evening where when Steven Curtis Chapman sang “Cinderella” and when he accepted the award for Artist of the Year. That was so powerful!

I can’t do justice to the evening in words. I may try to update with more detail at some point later. For now, I am just still blessed to pieces about having been there to experience it all with my wonderful husband, Mickey. I am so grateful for this surprise and opportunity.

And, now I’m outta here. We have a full day in Nashville to enjoy…together! :D

Kelly

Hello, Nashville!

Mickey and I are in Nashville! We arrived early this afternoon. We had a great lunch at Rainforest Cafe and then did a touch of shopping at Opry Mills. Then we came to our hotel to just relax and unwind before the Dove Awards tonight. Right now we’re waiting on food delivery and then we’ll get all spiffed up to go to the Doves. I am still just amazed that this is all happening. It’s so cool and I am blown away by all that my precious husband did to make it all happen. This is amazing!!

I am SO Excited!!

I have the most wonderful husband in the world, y’all! He has put together a WONDERFUL surprise for me. I have known for awhile that he has been cooking up this surprise and recently he revealed that it’s a trip. However, he would never tell me when, where, with/out kids, etc. I knew nothing. So, I’ve been planning life as usual being that I was in the dark about the plans. Well, I got the big news revealed to me last night. Oh my good gracious, I am positively giddy! Guess what?! We are going to Nashville, TN! Guess what else?! We are going to the Dove Awards!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! Can y’all believe it?! I can’t. This seems like a dream come true.I just love surprises, but it’s actually kind of hard to pull one over on me because I’m nosey ;) and can pick up on hints pretty easily. But, Mickey covered all his bases and he blew my socks off with this plan.

We’ll leave tomorrow morning and drive up to Nashville. We’ll go to the Doves tomorrow night which, hello, is incredible! The tickets say “black tie optional”, so since we never go all out and fancy, we are going all out and fancy now. Mickey rented a tux and I’m wearing a formal dress!! (Again, I say…EEEEE!!) So many of our favorite singers and bands will be there and will be performing. I cannot even imagine how cool it’s going to be, but I know it’s going to bless and rock our socks right off!! We’ll stay on in Nashville Thursday night, of course, and then we’ll have Friday to shop, eat, explore, etc. Friday night we plan to go out in downtown Nashville which should be incredibly fun. Then Saturday we are going to head over to Lynchburg, TN to meet up with my mom who will have the  girls. We’ll spend the rest of the weekend in TN at a B&B as a family. Sounds blissful, doesn’t it?! I cannot wait. I am positively giddy.

I just had to share this news! There are no words to describe how grateful I am to have such an amazing, thoughtful, wonderful and loving husband. To think that he did all this for me and for us is just incredible. We haven’t been away, just the two of us, since our honeymoon. And, we both ecstatic to get this chance.

SOOOOOOO happy,
Kelly

Blah.

I have a cold and I feel rotten. I woke up in the night with a runny nose and that has since escalated. My eyes are watery, my  nose is pouring buckets, my sinuses are like pressure chambers, my head aches, my body aches, I’m feverish and…just…UGH. This came out of nowhere too. I did yard work yesterday and I initially thought this might be “just” allergies as of this morning, but, no…it’s a mean ole nasty cold. And, I’m already tired of it. Blah.

Fun Run Morning

Mickey and Macey have gone to her school’s Fun Run this morning. This is an annual event by Macey’s elementary school that raises money for the P.E. department. The children walk/run a mile and each child receives a ribbon. There are three races – 4th/5th grade, 2nd/3rd grade and K/1st grade. Macey, of course, is in the last race. Mickey’s planning on running the mile with her. However, she gets to cross the finish line by herself. I think it is really cool that Macey wanted to do this, first of all, and that her wonderful daddy is sharing this experience with her. I can’t wait to see them in their matching race t-shirts. :)

Book Review – Faking Grace by Tamara Leigh

529294: Faking Grace Faking Grace

By Tamara Leigh / Multnomah

Struggling journalist Maizy Grace Stewart isn’t really a believer, but she manages to “fake it” in order to land a part-time job at a Christian publishing house. When the newspaper editor commissions her to write an undercover expose of her new employer, will her conversations with churchgoing colleagues lead to success—or second thoughts? 400 pages, softcover from Multnomah.

************
I have decided to read through the books that are finalists for the 2009 Rita Award for “inspirational romance.” I have already read Finding Stefanie by Susan May Warren and Love Stars with Elle by Rachel Hauck and The Perfect Life by Robin Lee Hatcher. I decided that Faking Grace by Tamara Leigh would be my next read for the RITA finalist list.

I enjoyed this book and thought it was a nice read. I found it a touch melodramatic in parts (the lead character reads The Dumb Blonde’s Guide to Christianity being one example), but I actually felt that gave  more charm to the novel overall. Through this novel, Maizey Grace Stewart comes to find out what it is to seek a real relationship with God and what is is to be on the receiving end of true grace. Initially she believes that she can fake her faith with “Jesus junk” such as bumper stickers, a crown of thorns air freshner in her car, etc. This book reveals Maizey’s journey through faking and into realization that there is more to Christianity than cultural items.

A nice read with a great message. Recommended reading.

Play Date In Full Effect

Macey and her friends got off the schoolbus about 45 minutes ago. There has been non-stop chatter and excitement in the house since they got here. Bless Mariana, she’s napping right through it all. Not sure HOW, especially when the squeals and giggles escalate, but she’ s managing to snooze through it all. Play dates are so much fun. Hopefully this summer we can have even more. Definitely a FUN day!

Play Date Day

Today is a “Play Date Day” in our house. Macey will be bringing two friends home from school with her this afternoon. Oh, she is SO excited! To tell the truth, I’m excited too. I’m excited for her because I know how much she’s looking forward to it. Sure, this means I have to really get on the ball and clean the house today, but there shouldn’t have to be an excuse for that anyway, right? This house ought to be pretty lively this afternoon with four little girls here. How exciting! :)

Book Review – When Crickets Cry by Charles Martin

540547: When Crickets Cry When Crickets Cry

By Charles Martin / Thomas Nelson

From Christy Award finalist Martin comes a work of “God-haunted” southern fiction sure to tug at your heartstrings! Travel to a sleepy town square in Georgia, where a 7-year-old child sells lemonade to raise funds for a heart transplant, an onlooker watches, and a speeding truck comes around the bend, changing bothe lives forever.

***********
The more I read by Charles Martin, the more of a fan of his work I become. This is the third novel I have read by him and, so far, it is my favorite. The whole time I was reading this book I was in a real Catch-22 situation. I wanted to keep reading to see what happened next, but yet I didn’t want to rush through the book as I wasn’t ever ready for it to end. This novel took me in from the first page and never let me go through its entirety.

This novel is beautifully and skillfully written. Charles Martin has a gift of writing and he uses his God-given talents to engage readers and create memorable and realistic characters. The way Martin writes, I always feel a familiarity with the surroundings and characters. As if I am reading about my own hometown and people I have met and care about already. I felt instantly drawn into this novel and its storylines and back-stories. As I said above, I didn’t want to put it down, but certainly didn’t want it to end.

I really don’t want to give away anything about any plot lines in this novel. Martin’s storytelling and detail weaving are remarkable. Anything I could say here might detract from that and I would rather leave it all intact for you all to read, savor and enjoy.

I whole heartedly recommend this novel. It’s one that shows depth of love, perseverance of faith and importance of character. Beautiful through and through!
