Busy Busy Busy…

This week is shaping up to be a busy one for me. Every day there is at least one “thing to do” on my Google Calendar. Good thing the calendar will send text messages to my cell to keep me on top of things. ;) Most of this week’s activities are going to be fun, especially Macey’s class field trip to the children’s museum on Thursday, but some are just necessities like check-ups at the ENT for Mariana. Still, with something to get out of the house to do every day, we’ll have a hopping week.

Now that Lent is over, I am back on Facebook. It was actually kind of nice to give it up. Don’t get me wrong, I missed the interactions there, but it was a good Lenten sacrifice because it really freed up time for me. I have discovered that a lot has changed on there in time time I was away, but I’m adapting well so far.

Speaking of Lent, I hope everyone had a beautiful Easter. Ours was great! We went to our church’s contemporary service (which is normal for us) and the message was just incredible. We had a very low-key afternoon at home which was also nice. We pondered going to the zoo for awhile in the afternoon, but opted to stay home and relax which was a great decision.

I got my hair cut and colored today. I just love my hair stylist, Jenna! She is so sweet and does a great job with my hair. In addition to “doing hair”, she is also director of children’s ministry at a church in a nearby town, so we always have a lot to talk about on that note too.

The weather here has been nuts lately. This morning we had a good bit of rain with crazy wind. Lots of limbs and debris around our neighborhood. From what we have seen, nothing bad happed, so that’s good. The power went out at our church, so Mickey couldn’t work today and the kids all had to be picked up from preschool early. Crazy crazy!

Guess I should wrap this up and figure out supper. It’s getting close to that time.

Have a great evening, all…

Blessings,
Kelly

Happy Easter

When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?”

But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.

“Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. 7But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’ ” Mark 16:1-7 (NIV)

Easter is here! We celebrate the glory of Jesus our Lord overcoming cruelty and death. He died to take our sins and arose to give us the promise of glory forever. Praises be!

Easter Eve

In yesterday’s Good Friday post, I talked about God’s amazing grace. Grace that brought about the most beautiful good from the most violent evil. In addition to that amazing grace, I’ve also been thinking about God’s amazing love. The purest love that can exist is the love God has for us. Nothing we can ever do can separate us from that love. It’s always there for the taking. Amazing, isn’t it? Truly, it is. I don’t say that lightly either. I am in absolute awe of the way that God is the full and complete definition of love. God is the fount and source of all love.

The most incredible way God showed His love for us was to send His only begotten Son, Jesus, to this earth to save us all. Jesus came to this world as a fulfillment of God’s unending and unbending love for us. When you think about it, we really don’t know that much about Jesus’ life, but the most important parts to our salvation are contained within what we DO know. His birth fulfilled God’s promise to send a Savior. His teachings are the very foundation of how we should live and the truth of His lessons will always remain. His death and resurrection fulfilled His place as the one and only Messiah. Everything Jesus did within the course of His earthly life was done out of love. Love poured out from God the Father and love that Jesus Himself carried for everyone – even those who would beat Him, mock Him and eventually kill Him. His love was so great for man, that He even revealed it to the thief hanging on a cross near Him when Jesus Himself must have been in unthinkable pain and agony at that moment. His love is so great that He bore every single minute of undeserved punishment on behalf of mankind. He took on all of our sin at that time and took it to the grave with Him when He breathed His last breath and died. He left our sins in the grave when He arose from the dead. Want to talk about amazing love? There it is. That is amazing love.

We cannot even fathom the depth of that kind of love. We just can’t. As much as we know that the love is there and believe in its infinence, we simple cannot begin to comprehend it fully because we can’t love that deeply ourselves. That kind of love is only of God. As a parent, I cannot even begin to imagine letting my child be punished, let alone be made to suffer and die, for the sins or misdeeds of another. Can any one of us imagine doing THAT?! God did. God sent His own Son to save every one of our lost souls. The world was and is so full of sin that God in His infinite grace sent Jesus to preach, teach and to save. Then Jesus endured absolute torture to the point of death all for the sins of every.single.person on the earth when He Himself was sinless and blameless. And, here’s what really moves me, personally…He didn’t have to do it. Jesus was fully-God and fully-man and as He lived upon this earth, His every motive, action, thought and deed was pure and true for the Glory of God. He didn’t have to allow Himself to be tried, beaten, tortured, mocked, spit upon and hung on a cross. God didn’t have to allow it to happen either. It could have all ended in the blink of an eye and all of humanity could have been destroyed right then and there. (Or worse) But, because of the incredible depth of the love of God that Christ Himself possessed, He did do it. He took all of our sins onto Himself and He bore what most of us can’t even begin to imagine. He didn’t do it for Himself. He did it out of love for us. Love that originates from God the Father and pours freely from Jesus Christ. There is no greater love. No greater grace. Jesus was innocent and pure and did not have to do anything for the salvation of man, but instead of doing nothing, He did it all for every one of us. Again I say…AMAZING.

As we prepare to celebrate the ressurection of the risen Christ on Easter, I want to remind each of us to be mindful of Jesus’ love every day. If we know that He loves us and we live in His love, we can give forth from that love.  Pure evil and sin took Jesus to the cross, but it was love that kept Him there for the sake of our souls. Let’s not take that for granted. Let’s not forget that Jesus truly paid it all. All to Him we owe.

John 3:16-17 (NIV) really says it all:  “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him…”

Good Friday

Today is Good Friday. It’s a day when we Christians recognize and remember the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The recognition of this day is, of course, very significant in Christian faith. It is the day that our Savior took our sins to Calvary and died with them on the cross. But, it’s more than that. Far more. I have been thinking about Good Friday a good bit lately and wanted to share my thoughts.

My first thought is that Good Friday is a significant name for this day because it truly and securely solidifies just exactly how gracious our God really is. God is the only way to bring good from evil. Only from God can use something horrible to reveal something beautiful. God is love and only from His love do good and wonderful things come. That’s His way. The ultimate revealing of this is in Jesus’ trial, crucifixion, death and then, of course, His resurrection. Jesus suffered tremendously. He was tried unfairly and sentenced cruelly without cause. He was savagely beaten, made to carry His own cross in a weakened and bloody condition and was hung to die after He had endured painful and terrible torture. As He hung, he was mocked time and time again. The guards were so callous as to gamble for His clothes. His own disciples fled. He had to endure pain of every magnitude imaginable. He did this out of complete and unfailing love. The cross brought death to Jesus and He was buried. After unthinkable acts of violence and malice, He was laid to rest in a tomb. We can’t even begin to imagine what Jesus went through, really. It had to have been the most awful occurrence any of us could imagine and more. But, God with His abundant mercy, brought good from all of that. God turned that horrid situation into the most beautiful and meaningful event the world will ever know until the Second Coming of Christ. God resurrected Jesus on the third day. He brought Jesus out of death and back into life. He gave Jesus more time with His disciples so that they would be prepared to spread the Message throughout the world. Then God brought Jesus back into His heavenly home. How beautiful is that?! Just as the torture Jesus endured was awfully indescribable, the absolute beauty of his resurrection is equally indescribable. God, in all of His magnificent grace, took the most awful event and made something miraculous and beautiful from it. That is love. That is love, goodness and grace which can only come from God. God is the giver of all things good. And, only He could take something so terrible and use it victoriously for the good. This is the most amazing gift any of us could ever receive. God poured out His grace, mercy and love at the expensive of His own Son for our salvation. All we have to do is accept it and believe it. We cannot earn it and we cannot lose it if we truly believe. Salvation is God’s ever-present gift. There are just no words to describe how completely awesome this gift is. I am humbled just thinking about it. His grace really IS amazing.

So, today, as we recognize the symbolic day of the death of our Savior, let’s also look forward with hope. Jesus endured and overcame torture and death. He did it all for us out of love, mercy and grace. There is no hope more solid than this. There is no greater fuel for the fire of faith than knowing our Savior loved each and every one of us so much that He took our every sin to the cross, buried those sins with Him and left them behind when He rose in victory over death. This is our hope and our salvation. Today is not a day to mourn. Today is a day for renewed hope and gratitude for what Jesus did and for the love He continually pours out on each of us every day.

Amen.

Homemade Cream Eggs

Another Easter treat that I love (and so does my mom!) are Cadbury Creme Eggs. When i posted about homemade Peeps the other day, I noticed that there was also a recipe for homemade cream eggs. I promptly forwarded that link to my mom. They seem REALLY good even if they are loaded with calories. So, if anyone is interested in making cream eggs at home, click here for the recipe. Enjoy!!

Ready for a beautiful day…

  • Good morning from South Georgia!!
  • We had supper with my brother Charlie and his family last night. That was so nice!! We haven’t gotten to see them much lately, so we were all glad to catch up. Jackson (nephew) is getting so big and is completely adorable! We’re excited to see the three cousins play together soon.
  • The girls “rewarded” us by sleeping ’til almost 8 this morning. Ahhh! Of course, calling 8am “sleeping in” is a definite indicator that we’re parents of younger kids, right?!
  • We’re hoping to get together with my friend Terri and her girls today. Our daughters are close in age and get along great. It’ll be so much fun to see them together. And, of course, it will be wonderful to spend time with Terri. Can’t wait!
  • I also have to go to the eye doctor while I’m here. Lately I haven’t been able to wear my contacts because my eyes are so red and irritated. So, since I am on record at the eye doctor here, I’ll take this opportunity to go. Hope they have my RX for contacts in stock. I like my glasses alright, but I much prefer my contacts.
  • We only brought one Boz dvd and Mariana has watched it twice already this morning. Well, she doesn’t just sit glued to it, but it’s on the tv. I’m about over it already. LOL!!
  • Off to get ready for a great day!

Blessings,
Kelly

Away Down South…

Mickey, the girls and I are in South Georgia for the rest of the week. We left home this morning and made the trek southward. We had lunch with Gran-Gran and Pop (my maternal grandparents) which was really fun and nice. Mickey and I are trying to help with some painting work around their house, but found our supplies lacking so we’ll have to finish it up at some other point. After that visit we made our way to Nana’s (my mom) house. The girls are thrilled to be at Nana’s. Mariana needed a nap like nobody’s business by the time we got here, but didn’t want to lay down, so I had to bribe her with a Boz DVD and that worked. ;)

We’re not sure if we’ll stay ’til Sunday and have Easter here or go home Saturday and have Easter at home. We’ll make that decision later. For now, we are glad to be here and so glad to have time with family and some friends.

Homemade “Peeps”

Every spring I look forward to Easter candy. I specifically look forward to Peeps. I don’t really “love” them, but they are incredibly nostalgic to me and I do like them. I have at least one per year. There is something ooey-gooey good about those sugar sprinkled marshmallow treats. I can’t really explain it, but Peeps will always have a special place in my heart.

Well, today the Atlanta Journal Constitution linked to a page for making Peeps at home. Check it out here. It seems a bit involved for me, but some of you are FAR more crafty than me, so I figured this was worth sharing. (I’m looking at you, Marie, over at Make and Takes – {{wink wink}})

If anyone makes these, please share the results. I’d love to know how it turns out. In the meantime I’ll enjoy the ones my mom sent to Mickey and me recently. Fresh out of the package, of course.

PS: Here is the recipe for Homemade Marshmallows as used in the Homemade Peeps.

Snow…

We have had snow flurries off/on all morning. At times the flurries have been pretty significant. Nothing is sticking, of course, so there is no accumulation, but it still baffles the mind of this Southern girl to see snow in April. Brrrr.

Here is a screen shot from The Weather Channel:

In true crazy Georgia weather fashion, spring is due to make a comeback tomorrow with temps in the 60s. Go figure. ;) Here is our forecast screen shot:

f_castLike I said – CRAZY. Gotta love it!

Household Products I Love…

I’ve been thinking for awhile that I should post about some of the household products that we use and love in our house. Alright, so LOVE might be a bit strong, but these are definitely some favorites around our home.

Palmolive pure + clear

palmolivee

This is a great dish detergent! It works great even on greasy dishes or food that is stuck to plates, etc. I really appreciate that it’s more natural than a lot of other dish detergents on the market. There are no unnecessary chemicals and no phosphates in this product. Additionally, the bottle is made from recycled plastic. If you are looking for a great earth-friendly dish product, this is a great choice. Works great and is ecologically sensitive. A+ product!

Palmolive eco

palmolive_ecoThis is my new favorite dishwasher detergent. I very much appreciate that it doesn’t contain any phosphates. (However, please be aware that it does contain chlorine bleach if this is an issue for anyone.) I find that Palmolive eco cleans our dishes beautifully and doesn’t leave any residue. Additionally, this product goes a long way. We used to buy the little chalky tabs that go into the dishwasher. Not anymore. This liquid works better and lasts way longer. I wouldn’t go so far as to say that this product is truly “green”, but in my experience it is more ecological friendly than a lot of other dishwasher detergents on the market today.

Murphy’s Oil Soap

murphys_oil_soap

Murphy’s Oil Soap is an incredibly versatile cleaning product. The original formula cleans most all surfaces including wood, laminate, vinyl, marbel and MORE. Murphy’s is made from mostly natural ingredients and contains no ammonia, bleach or harsh detergents. It is also biodegradable which is a huge plus in my book. And, to me, the smell is incredible. There is a light, almost citronella, scent to Murphy’s which smells so clean to me without being overpowering or intrusive. Excellent product!

Clorox Green Works Products

green_works1I have tried almost all of these products and really like each one. The only one I haven’t tried yet is the bathroom cleaning spray. Otherwise, I have been very pleased with all the rest of these products. They work GREAT! These products are made with mostly natural ingredients and are safe for families. That is obviously an appeal to us. Now, again, I wouldn’t go so far as to say that they are completely “green”, but I do appreciate that they are markedly better than many other products on the market today. I also appreciate that the packaging used is recycled and that no animal testing is done on these products.

Arm & Hammer Essentials

armandhammer

This is another eco-friendly cleaning product that I really like. Each formula comes with a bottle of concentrated cleaner that is diluted with water in the spray bottle. This efficient packaging method produces less waste which is a huge plus. Each product contains plant based materials with no ammonia or phosphates. These work really well too. Another great eco-friendly product!
