Every spring I look forward to Easter candy. I specifically look forward to Peeps. I don’t really “love” them, but they are incredibly nostalgic to me and I do like them. I have at least one per year. There is something ooey-gooey good about those sugar sprinkled marshmallow treats. I can’t really explain it, but Peeps will always have a special place in my heart.

Well, today the Atlanta Journal Constitution linked to a page for making Peeps at home. Check it out here. It seems a bit involved for me, but some of you are FAR more crafty than me, so I figured this was worth sharing. (I’m looking at you, Marie, over at Make and Takes – {{wink wink}})

If anyone makes these, please share the results. I’d love to know how it turns out. In the meantime I’ll enjoy the ones my mom sent to Mickey and me recently. Fresh out of the package, of course.

PS: Here is the recipe for Homemade Marshmallows as used in the Homemade Peeps.

The girls and I decided to make pine cone bird feeders this afternoon. We’ve been seeing a lot of birds around lately and thought it would be fun to make feeders for them. Or the squirrels. Whichever. These are some photos of our craft adventure.

All we could find were tiny pine cones like these in the tree

So, we decided to find limbs on the ground that had the cones still attached. Like this one:

Looks like the animals will be getting low fat peanut butter this time!

Spreading the peanut butter onto the cones:

Coated pinecones. YUM!

Time to get out the birdseed:

Sprinkling the birdseed onto the cones:

Roll it around to coat it well:

Check it out…it’s a birdy buffet!!

One of Macey’s bird feeders hanging on a tree in our front yard.

For Macey and me, this was a really fun little craft project. For Mariana, it was a tasty snack. Instead of spreading the peanut butter onto cones, she kept spooning it right into her mouth. She even tasted the birdseed.

Macey went outside and called for the birds to come and, shockingly, none came flocking to her. I guess her career as a bird whisperer isn’t a sure bet at this time. BUT, we went to the park and when we came back there were squirrels skittering around the tree near the feeders, so at least someone got to eat this evening.
