Yawning & Stretching…

{{{YAWN}}}

I am so sleepy this morning. Even after a cup and a half of coffee, I still feel like I have weights on my eyelids. I just want to curl back up in bed and sleep some more. Is that asking so much, really? The answer is YES, it’s too much to ask. Especially since Miss Mariana is up and at ‘em this morning. Of course, it was Miss Mariana that was awake and crying at 3:45 this morning too. And, it was Mariana that then kept me awake with her tossing and turning until well after 5 this morning too. So, of course, it was  HER that got to sleep in a bit this morning and not me. Hmph. Some kids!! ;)  She seems to feel fine this morning, but I’m keeping her home from preschool because I’m not sure she’d last the whole day without becoming tired and cranky anyway. I am seriously pondering taking her nap with her today. Right about now that seems heavenly, but light years away.

Who else is watching The Biggest Loser with me this season? It’s another great one. I just love that show! Of course, I could do without the very obvious product endorsements and I could certainly do without the BLEEPING language, but it’s still a very good show to me. I won’t say anything too specific about last night’s episode because I don’t want to reveal any spoilers for those who haven’t had a chance to watch it yet. I will say that I thought that sisters Aubrey and Mandi showed SO much strength last night. Strength of body, character and spirit. I’m also wondering why Kristin had immunity? Need to do some investigation into that one, I guess.

Guess I should get this day started. Or, at least get up and move a little bit.

Happy Wednesday,
Kelly

Bottle It Up

Today is another BEAUTIFUL day. It’s approaching 80 outside (if not a little over 80) and the day is just gorgeous. It’s a day that I want to bottle up and save. I especially wish I could save it knowing that this week is supposed to start cooling off and it’s supposed to stay cool next week too. Granted, it IS only March and not even spring yet, so I suppose I should be happy for 50s and all, but…WAH. I am just loving these early days of spring so much. I know I don’t get my way though. We are supposed to get rain with these cooler temps and I’ll be thankful that spring showers bring those pretty flowers. Or, something like that.

I’m still reeling from adding Level Two to my Biggest Loser Boot Camp work-out yesterday. I’m glad that tonight is Yoga night, let’s just say. I do plan to add the next level of Yoga too, but at least it won’t involve doing jumping jacks while holding weights in my hands. WHEW!! It’s the little things to be happy about when getting in shape, I suppose.

As I have been blogging more lately, I have also discovered more and more blogs. There are so many out there and so many that touch the heart. Today I found one for little Kayleigh Anne Freeman.  Kayleigh was a teeny tiny preemie eight months ago and is still in NICU care. Her parents are facing some financial struggles (to put it mildly) and a site has been set up for collecting donations to help this family. If you would like to help, check out Give 4 Kayleigh. I will also include a button link at the end of this post. Whether or not you are able to give financially, please join in with many others in praying for Kayleigh. I know that prayers go a LONG way  and I believe the family could use as many prayers as they can get.

As I discover and read these new (to me) blogs, I realize more and more every day how great our God is. The stories I read sometimes break my heart, sometimes make me smile, but always ALWAYS give me furtherance of hope and faith.

Blessings,
Kelly

Motivation NOW…

Another night that I am lacking motivation to exercise. What’s up with me?! I’m seeing a common theme this week in that I don’t feel like exercising by the time the evening comes. So, I’m posting here again (just like last night) to give myself a bit of inspiration to exercise. I’ve been doing so well and I know I will regret it if I skip out on tonight. So, while I really just want to put on some comfy pjs and snuggle up before going to sleep early, what I need to do and WILL do is get the girls in bed and go work out. It’s Boot Camp night. I can do it.

PS: I just had to add (again tonight) that I did it! It was a great work out, as usual. Whew!!

No excuses…

I am posting here to hold myself accountable tonight. I really REALLY don’t feel motivated to do my yoga. Yet, I know I need to. I’m in a good routine with exercising and I don’t want to mess it up. So, I’m posting here to remind myself that it’s worth it. Getting fit is my goal and I can’t do it sitting in this chair. So, here I go. Yoga time, it is!! Wish me luck…

PS: I DID IT!! I’m glad I did. I am already starting to feel an increase in my flexiblity. Sweet! :D

Early Release Day

It’s early release day for our public schools. That means Miss Macey will be coming home early today. Yay!! Actually, I plan to pick her up even before the regular release time so that we can have lunch together as a family. On early release days, they still feed the students lunch, only they move up the lunch times so that every grade gets to eat before leaving. Macey’s class normally eats at 12:53, but today they will go to lunch at 11:32. After a half hour for lunch, they go back to their classroom and have about 20 minutes before packing up to leave for the day. So, Macey won’t miss much (if anything) at school by leaving  a bit early AND she’ll get to have lunch with her family. What a treat!

Speaking of treats – Macey had two pretty amazing treats yesterday courtesy of her daddy. First he was “mystery reader” in her classroom yesterday morning. I wish I could have been a fly on the wall because Mickey told me all about how excited she was that he was there!! He read a Veggie Tales alphabet book first. Then, because it was Dr. Seuss’ birthday, he read The Foot Book which Macey and her teacher picked out for him to read. He and Macey have been reading that book together for a long time, so that was really cool.  As if having Daddy be mystery reader wasn’t enough, Macey got another surprise when Mickey went to have lunch with her at school yesterday. He said he tried to stay hidden so she wouldn’t see him when she came into the cafeteria, but she spotted him right away and practically hopped all the way over to him. She was THRILLED that he was there. Yesterday was not only her favorite school lunch (cheese stuffed bread sticks – yum), but she also got to have a lunch date with her Daddy. What  a day!! In true Macey form, she said the only thing that was not good about it was that some kids might be sad that their daddies didn’t get to come to school two times. What a sweet, compassionate child she is!! The girl has such a big heart.

I took Mariana back to the pediatrician’s office yesterday. I had scheduled an appointment to see one of the pediatricians at our practice that is most familiar with her, but he was running way behind and we opted to see a nurse practitioner instead of waiting. The short version of the story is that it took some doing, but I got the NP to listen to my “mama’s intuition” about changing Mariana’s medication. She was on an antibiotic that is penicillin based and it didn’t seem to be helping her. I requested a change. I know the seriousness of antibiotics and I know not to “fool around” with them, certainly. When one is not working and the symptoms are worsening, it’s time to reevaluate. So, we did. We changed her meds and she is doing much better today, on the whole. Praise God!! Mariana is seeing her ENT next week and hopefully we can come to a good plan to help her get well and stay well. Fortunately, I have to say that this winter has been far and away better than last, so that is a HUGE praise. Maybe we can get her on the right track and keep it that way.

After taking a day off to rest on Sunday, I got back on my work-out schedule last night. This is my last week on the first level of Biggest Loser Boot Camp. Need I say again that this is a GREAT work out?! Whew! It works up quite a sweat and has me out of breath in points, but I love it.

I have a ton of fresh strawberries and need something to do with some of them. The girls are eating them like crazy, which is great, but I don’t want any to go bad. I was thinking of looking for a good bread recipe. Any other ideas? Please share if you have any recipes using fresh strawberries. Preferably something that keeps nicely.

Happy Tuesday,
Kelly

No Snow Day For Us…

Well, yesterday’s snow turned out to be a dusting. We still have some on the ground, but the accumulation was not much at all. We didn’t even go out to play in it. Still, it was really neat to see it snowing most all day. Just goes to show how varied weather can be because it was in the mid 60s-low70s late last week and then snow on Sunday. Go figure. It’s COLD today, but no snow day. Oh well.

Mariana is still struggling with congestion & drainage which leads to constant coughing. Poor sweet girl. Looks like we’ll be going back to the ped this morning to see what can be done to help her. She also has an ENT appointment next week. Hopefully we can find a solution to help her get through this mess, especially with allergy season being right on top of us.

Mickey is going to be the “Mystery Reader” in Macey’s class this morning. I wish I could be a fly on the wall to see her face when her daddy walks in to read. She’s going to be THRILLED! He’s also going to try to come back and have lunch with her today since it’s her favorite school lunch – cheese stuffed breadsticks. (YUM)

I’ll be back on my exercising routine today. I did Weight Loss Yoga on Saturday and took Sunday off. This evening I’ll do Biggest Loser Boot Camp again. This is my last week on the first level and next week I’ll take it up to the next level. Whew!! I really like working out six days per week – keeps it nice and even which I like. I’m still amazed at what a work-out yoga is too!

Speaking of exercise, Mickey ran just over 6 miles on Saturday. That’s his longest running distance post-surgery. WAY TO GO, HONEY!! Even though I think he’s a little warped for running when it’s cold, wet, etc. I am really proud of him for doing so great with his running. :D

My Lenten sacrifice of giving up Facebook (most social networking online, actually) is going well. I miss it, but giving it up has been good for me. Twitter is something that I have kept up a little bit, but mostly because my posts here automatically generate “tweets” and I also tweeted some about our church’s upcoming youth conference last week.

Have a beautiful day…
Kelly

Yes!! We Did It!!

I just had to pop in and post that Terri and I both worked out every evening this week. This was our first week of working out and we had a goal to work out each evening. WE DID IT!! Woo Hoo!! We both plan to work out at least once this weekend. I’m not sure of my exact plan, but I do plan to do the weight-loss yoga at least once. (More info in this thread.) It has felt great to start working out again. I can even tell that my stamina and flexibility are both increasing – slowly but surely. We have one more week to go in our first segment of Biggest Loser Boot Camp. I almost stepped on up a level tonight, but I’m glad I didn’t. I need another full week to get ready for that. I’m so glad that Terri and I are doing this together – even with 200 miles between us. We’re on our way and there is no stopping us. FITNESS, here we come!!

PS: Wish Mickey luck too. He’s going to run 6 miles tomorrow morning, weather permitting. GO MICKEY GO!

Shaping Up…

One of my goals for this year is to get in better physical shape. I have what I consider to be a “milestone” birthday coming up this year and I would really like to lose some weight and get fit by then.  I want to have more energy, more stamina and more overall strength. I’m happy to report that I have started getting my act together and have been exercising regularly starting this week. I know, I know…we are only four days into this week. But, I have exercised every day this week (twice on Tuesday) and that’s a great start for me. I’m excited! I’m pumped and I am feeling great about continuing this wellness and fitness trend!! Please, wish me luck.

One cool thing is that I am not in this fitness quest alone. Mickey has been able to start running again and so far this year he has logged over 50 miles in running. (He had shin surgery last fall and has just been able to start running again this year) He is doing SO great! Also, my best friend Terri is working out each day (well, night) as well. She and I text each other when we are just about to start our work-outs and/or when we have just finished. That way we are sending encouragement to the other. And, that is awesome. Even though we are 200 miles apart, I know we’re in this together. We are uplifting and encouraging one another every step of the way. Neither one of us wants to see the other fail, so we are holding up our own end of things so that it helps the other to remain strong. It’s just incredible, really.

The work-outs I am doing most often right now are Biggest Loser Boot Camp and Biggest Loser Weight-Loss Yoga. Both of those are GREAT work-outs. If you think that yoga can’t be a great work out, try this dvd and you’ll know differently. Granted, the Boot Camp is more intense in some ways, but I will say that I break a sweat and feel the muscles working in yoga as well. I highly recommend these two dvds!! I have also done the first segment of Jillian Michaels’ Body Shred and – WHEW- that was tough. It was a great work out, but I did it on Tuesday evening after I had done yoga in the afternoon and it just about flattened me. I guess it’s obvious that I am desperately in need of getting into better shape, right? Well, I’m on my way!! I’m doing it!! And, it feels GREAT!!

What a work out!

Yesterday, I purchased this DVD:

biggest_loser_bootcamp

I had been looking for a great work-out DVD and decided to give this one a try when my friend Christi raved about it twice on her blog. I am glad I got this one because it is definitely a great workout. It’s intense without being impossible even when one is as out of shape as I am. There are various levels so it’s not something I will have to stop using any time soon.

I won’t say I loved it because I’m not a fan of sweating (lol), but it was a workout that I really needed. If you’re looking for a great workout DVD, I’d recommend this one. It’ll work you over, that’s for sure!

Exhilarating!

It’s a GORGEOUS spring morning here! Both girls are at preschool this morning, so I decided that the house-cleaning could wait and I went out for a great walk this morning. I took my sweet little hot pink iPod shuffle and set out on a walk. I wound up going longer and farther than I had intended to do when I first set out, but it felt GREAT! I walked just over 2.5 miles in 40 minutes. Certainly not the quickest pace ever, but still pretty decent considering the hilly terrain around here. ;) I’m home now and I’m pumped. What a great way to start the day!
